Pacem in Terris: Peace on Earth (1963)
Pacem in Terris - Peace on Earth is a fundamental human desire but something which cannot be maintained without the recognition and fulfilment of the rights of all. To live responsibly together in mutual collaboration in truth, justice, charity and freedom is a universal ideal but one which can never be achieved through human agency alone. The source and reference point of all our relationships whether as individuals or between states must be the Prince of Peace Himself. This Encyclical Letter, which was originally issued in 1963, speaks of the rights and responsibilities of the individual, the dignity of each human person, the duties of governments and the relationships between states, highlighting the need for disarmament and the common good.
