"I raced through this gripping, dark thriller and loved the central character. Can't wait for the next instalment." --Laura Marshall, bestselling author of Friend Request Ziba Mackenzie profiles killers. Now one is profiling her. Rush hour, London. A packed commuter train is torn apart in a collision. Picking through the carnage, ex-special forces profiler Ziba MacKenzie helps a dying woman who passes on a cryptic message: He did it. You have to tell someone. When a corpse is found bearing the gruesome signature of a serial killer dormant for twenty-five years, Ziba is pulled into the hunt for the perpetrator. As the body count rises it becomes clear he's on a new spree. But what's brought the London Lacerator back after such a long hiatus? And does his sudden return have anything to do with the woman on the train? Ziba scrambles to profile the killer in the hope of predicting his next move. But time is running out. Not too bad for a first book. ( )

Zeba Mackenzie is a profiler working for Scotland and previously a member of the special forces. She is mourning the death of her husband, a policeman, when asked to help on a brutal serial psychotic killer case. At the same time she witnesses a train crash and hears a victim's last accusatory words whilst reading of the killer's latest victim and is determined to find out what it means. Oddly the occasional American phrase has crept in, such as calling collect instead of reversing the charges. Quite a dark plot full of psychological analysis. ( )

Interesting story.

I liked the suspenseful feeling throughout the book. Profiling killers sounds like a complex (but interesting) job. The main thing I didn't like was the language and some of the strange lingo (ex. Lifer juice). ( )

Good characterization, great military references, nice police procedural, good writing. An all-around joy to read. Recommended. I don’t think you will be disappointed. I gave three stars because there is room for improvement in style and substance of the writing, the kind of improvement that rally can’t be put into words but when you read a masterpiece, you know it. The author could very well write a masterpiece some day. ( )

Entertaining with some plot flaws. Ziba Mackenzie is a freelance profiler. Her husband, a Scotland Yard detective, died a couple of years ago; she's still struggling with depression and moving on. Then, after she is in a train crash, she is hired by Scotland Yard to profile a serial killer who has started killing after a 20+ year hiatus. (I received this book for free through Amazon Prime's First Reads.) ( )
