It’s Okay to Be Different

I really enjoyed this book and the message that it delivers to both kids and adults alike. This book is great for a classroom library because it embraces everyone’s differences and discusses that even though we are all different, it’s okay and we are all living our own best lives. This book is a great mix of serious and silly so that children stay engaged but also get the message of the book. I also really liked the simple illustrations because they were cute and easy to look out, without being too distracting from the text.

This book does a wonderful job being general with repetitive statements of acceptance while highlighting unique differences in the people around us in a positive light. The entire book discusses the power of accepting the unique qualities we each have visible or hidden. Parr's bright colors pulls young children in while the simple repetitive language allows readers to practice developmental literacy skills. ( )

Celebrate all the things that make you YOU! No matter what kind of things you may be dealing with, when you're a child, thinking yourself different from others can be debilitating. This book by Todd Parr aims to dispel those negative thoughts, and instead, encourages children to praise all the things that make them different from others! This is a fantastic book to read to children to inspire them to embrace any and all things they feel may set them apart from their peers, no matter what level of self-doubt the child may be struggling with. It is a book about acceptance and was truly heartwarming to read. ( )

A Todd Parr book that teaches kids that it's okay to be different, both inside and out, and that talking about those difference is great! If a child needs help or feels afraid, those are things to be discussed rather than hidden. This books shows diversity in a bright format. ( )
