In past books we've met and loved Tony Burke, bastard son of the Duke of Ashton. Now Tony has been given a title for services to the crown - not a small title but a dukedom. Tony is now the Duke of Ayr (in Scotland). The former duke was a mean old man who had a ward named Lady Eleanor Paisley. Eleanor had been running the duke's holding and so it was decided that she would make an excellent bride to help Tony move from bastard to Duke.
For all his childhood pain, Tony has become an amazingly happy and kind man. You can't help but love him, he is generous, kind, loving and so good to everyone around him. Eleanor has been raised alone and lonely in the Ayr castle. The only people she ever loved all died so she has walled off her emotions and refuses to love anyone again.
Reading about how these two interact is a wonderful thing. Usually, it is the woman who heals the man's pain when he has walled off all emotions so it is interesting to see the story turned on it's head. Tony is the loving one and Eleanor is the damaged one. As these two begin their life together they must stumble through many issues before they can finally find their happily ever after but it is worth the trip. ( )
