Good thriller, fast read, and very up to date on the fastest growing crime. Young woman genius programmer begins "internship" at FBI with a scary first case that she ends up in the middle of. ( )

My last book of 2020, and it was a wild ride! I loved this story of 22 years old Angela Hoot who was kicked out of MIT’s graduate program and was now an intern at the FBI investigating the murders of young women and their families. Angela is a genius coder and she needs to hack the computers and phones of these women to track the killers.
Angela’s mentor, Eve, helps Angela navigate the FBI’s case. Her supervisor, Billy Keats, and her bestie, Melanie, aka AA, also play a big part in the story.
When Angela gets close to cracking the case, the story turns up a notch.
Fast-paced and intriguing, I hope this is the start of a new series with a strong female protagonist.

A new fun and fast paced thriller with a gifted genius Angela Hoot. Angela is an intern with the Boston FBI in cyber forensic. As the title suggests it's her first case where she has to outsmart a hacker who targets young girls and their families with his mobile app.

I really enjoyed this book and would've given it 4 stars but the ending was not as good as the rest of the book. I'm no weapon expert, but I don't think FBI/Boston PD use AK47s. ( )

"1st Case "was an engaging read with a gripping storyline that had me racing to the end. Angela was a solid female lead - highly intelligent, intensely curious and a whiz with computer code - which I liked. However, there were times she showed immaturity and impulsivity which belied her high IQ, but she was likeable. The other characters, except for Special Agent William Keats, weren't in the picture long enough to get to know them properly, but they served their purpose by supporting Angela in her quest to solve the crime.

The biggest weakness of the book was the villain. At the star, the reader was witness to a horrendous crime scene and gradually learnt how clever and ruthless the killer was, but I was disappointed when the perp was finally identified. I felt it was a cop-out and spoilt the overall plot. However, overall, "1st Case" was fast-paced, a good page turner and a fun way to while away a few hours in covid lockdown. ( )
