A fictionalized account of the Empress of China's discovery, around 2700 B.C., that the cocoons of the worms in her mulberry trees were made of fine, shiny, silken thread which could be made into beautiful cloth. Very cute story and illustrations. Great for a lesson on the many inventions of China. We learned about how the ancient Chinese made cloth out of silk so this book was a great supplement as it went into detail about each step to the process in an accessible way for young readers or listeners.
