This book contains A. S. Eddington s 1926 treatise, "Stars and Atoms." Originally an evening discourse given at the meeting of the British Association in Oxford in August 1926, "Stars and Atoms" was expanded and republished here in the form of three accessible and interesting lectures. This insightful collection of essays is recommended for those with an interest in the history and development of astronomy, and would make for a great addition to collections of allied literature. Contents include: The Interior of a Star, Temperature of the Interior, Ionization of Atoms, Radiation, Pressure and Mass, The Interior of a Star, Opacity of Stellar Matter, Some Recent Investigations, The Story of Algol, The Story of the Companion of Sirius, Spectral Series, The Sun s Chromosphere, etcetera. Sir Arthur Stanley Eddington (1882 - 1944) was an esteemed English mathematician, physicist, and astronomer during the early twentieth century. Many vintage texts such as this are increasingly scarce and expensive, and it is with this in mind that we are republishing this volume now in an affordable, modern, high-quality edition. It comes complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author."… (mere)
