With authoritative reporting honed through eight presidencies from Nixon to Obama, author Bob Woodward reveals in unprecedented detail the harrowing life inside President Donald Trump's White House and precisely how he makes decisions on major foreign and domestic policies. Woodward draws from hundreds of hours of interviews with firsthand sources, meeting notes, personal diaries, files and documents. The focus is on the explosive debates and the decision-making in the Oval Office, the Situation Room, Air Force One and the White House residence. The Caine Mutiny af Herman Wouk (M_Clark)
M_Clark: The Caine Mutiny describes the experience of a WWII ship's crew when under the command of a mentally disturbed captain. It is a perfect accompaniment to reading about today's White House.

Thoroughly researched and a bit plodding. The unfortunate thing is that Woodward held back publishing until his scoops were no longer newsworthy. ( )

The Reemergence of Fascism
Much of Bob Woodward’s latest book draws compelling comparisons between the rise of fascism in the 1930’s and its frightening reemergence now. For those of us reared in the shadow of World War II, fascism was thought to be well-killed and permanently relegated to the scrapheap of history. Now with fascism’s apparent resurgence in the governments of Russia, Poland, Hungary, and the US, we see that it is potentially more dangerous than it was in the last century.

Mr. Woodward reputation is such that he need not resort to unwarranted alarmist pronouncements, and he does not. He plainly states the facts as they have revealed themselves in his extensive research. His plain and easy-to-understand reporting draws no conclusions. He leaves those and the discussions of what is to be done to his readers. ( )

Typically superb reporting by Woodward. The book gives a more rounded and human view of Trump than you can get in the media (left or right) or certainly on social media. Not only insights into how the White House works, but the book contains fascinating accounts of how staffers and politicians, whatever their motives, backgrounds, or political beliefs, had to constantly act, react, and adjust to the mercurial (read unbalanced) president. They stepped through the looking glass from the White House to the madhouse. ( )

Impeccable research .Woodward seems to be a fly on the wall of many meetings during Trump’s presidency. And Trump emerges as a bullying narcissist, who is unable/unwilling to read or listen. A man completely lacking in empathy, who believes that the only thing that matters is $$$$$$$ . This account isn’t The West Wing. ( )

Quite the intriguing book, Trump is such a incompetent figures and seeing how his personnel has to keep him in check like a little child is frustrating.
I recommend this book for everyone who is interested in the backroom of politics. ( )

For page after dumbfounding page, Fear reproduces, with gobsmacking credulity, the self-aggrandizing narratives of factitious scoundrels. Didion was absolutely right to class Woodward’s work as fundamentally a kind of “political pornography.” But Fear is to Woodward’s previous oeuvre of political pornography what Fifty Shades of Grey is to Twilight: vampiric fan-fiction repackaged as middlebrow smut.
