Imagine a place where the dead rest on shelves like books. Each body has a story to tell, a life seen in pictures only Librarians can read. The dead are called Histories, and the vast realm in which they rest is the Archive. Mackenzie Bishop's grandfather first brought her here four years ago, when she was twelve years old, frightened but determined to prove herself. Now her grandfather is dead, and Mac has grown into what he once was: a ruthless Keeper, tasked with stopping often violent Histories from waking up and getting out. Because of her job, she lies to the people she loves, and she knows fear for what it is: a useful tool for staying alive. Follow Mackenzie as she explores the boundary between living and dying, sleeping and waking, through these two timeless novels, now bound together in this thrilling collection. With stunning prose and a captivating mixture of action, romance, and horror, The Dark Vault delves into a richly imagined world where no choice is easy and love and loss feel like two sides of the same coin.… (mere)

I purchased this book from Amazon to read with my bestie @mycornerforbooksand and @popthebutterfly readalong. All opinions are my own. 🌟🌟🌟🌟The Dark Vault: The Archived by Victoria Schwab. Mackenzie Bishop's family is moving into an old hotel to open a new coffee shop but the secrets she keeps may be her undoing. New friends in a new place make for a busy transition and History should just be left alone. Once you unwrap one piece the rest comes unraveling quickly. This book in the beginning was confusing for me but after a few chapters once the world is buildt the book immediately sucks you in. It's action packed, mystery unravels one piece at a time but so quickly, there is romance blossoming, and parents hovering, it's the perfect book for any genre reader. Now onto Book 2: The Unbound.🌟🌟🌟🌟The Dark Vault: Book 2 The Unbound by Victoria Schwab. When Mac finally settles into her two worlds colliding she begins to realize change is coming. The Nightmares are too real and her parents are smothering and her new friends at her new school are sarcastic and people around her keep disappearing and it's all too much until an old familiar face appears. That's when the world begins to unravel in a whole different direction. Will Mac be able to save Wes again? Will her memories and nightmare threaten her forever? Or will this be the biggest battle she's ever fought to prove her loyalty and love? Romance is sprinkled in every page while Mac fights Histories and fights for her sense of normal. It's not as action packed as the first book but it was still a page turner.
