You think you know, and then you don't. Then you read some more and you're *sure* that you know. You don't. I'm not a thriller reader, so I couldn't tell you if it was this unpredictable for someone who reads this type of book a lot, but I was completely shocked at least six times throughout this book. Love this one! Read it over New Years for maximum effect. ( )

A group of friends spend New Years weekend at a remote resort in Scotland. Each chapter is narrated by a different character which helps paint the backstory and personality of each character. The story flashes back to days before and after the murder which takes place on New Years Eve. The author initially keeps the reader guessing about the identity of the murder victim. As secrets surface and drugs and alcohol wreak havoc, several potential murder suspects come to mind. ( )

This was my first book by Lucy Foley and I really did enjoy it. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect but it turned out to be pretty suspenseful. The author was able to keep me guessing until almost the very end and that’s saying a lot. We were able to get to know the characters, some better than others, and it was nice to see that they all had real faults. None of them was perfect which made each of them a good suspect. I did find the ending surprising. ( )

This one seemed to be almost as much about outgrowing old friendships as it was about the murder mystery. There were lots of directions this one could have gone in, and I liked the way the author kept you guessing about who it was who had been murdered for the first half of the book, but the foreshadowing was a little heavy handed and once I knew who the body belonged to, I knew what had happened except for a subplot that came as a surprise. Recommended for those looking for a mystery set in an interesting locale. Not recommended for readers who want likeable characters. ( )
