Where the previous book is a lively celebration of her grit and eloquence, this one focuses more on the injustices that occurred in her life, and what she overcame. I loved the art. This story of Sojourner Truth, not only tells of the difference she made "in slavery time," but it inspires children to follow her lead. Often times, children do not feel tall within because their opinions, ideas, and concerns are not seen as important by adults. Sojourners story shows how by doing what was right she was able to be tall within, regardless of the height others saw her. I would use this as a mentor text to get my students thinking about changes they would like to see in our world or our school. Her story begins with "In slavery time" and then "In freedom time" once the change has occurred. Students can pick something they see has unjust and write about it in that time. They'll tell what it looks like, and then the BEAUTIFUL part, they will tell what it looks like "in freedom time" when that injustice is broken. Isabella Baumfree better known as Sojourner Truth was the truth. Born into slavery around 1797, Sojourner was a dreamer who never lost hope. From the time she was nine years old and sold for $100.00-along with a flock of sheep, she remembered what Mau-mau had taught her about the sky having the "same stars and the same moon" no matter how far apart they were from each other. The flow of the unrestrained 'TALL' words flowing from Sojourner's mouth are eloquent and poised with such power and strength. The expression "In slavery time when Respect fell as often as snow in July' is eye-opening. The illustrations are breathtaking and beautiful and they serve as a great depiction and representation of a time when dreams were all slaves had. A great read for grades K-3 ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
