“Phone Call with a Fish” is a lovely story about how we are all different and how empathy can go a long way. It allows readers to follow a young girl who is curious about a classmate who doesn’t speak. She attempts to put herself in his shoes and tries not speaking during recess. Although she still can’t understand how he goes without speaking for so long her curiosity never diminishes. During a trip to the science museum she finds a way to reach out to her classmate and actually connects with him. Her desire to understand and connect with someone different than her provides a sweet lesson about kindness and reaching out to others.

This is a sweet book to use for story time to teach kiddos that our differences can be strengths. This is a welcome addition to a classroom book collection.

Love all the blue and the aim to get to know someone, despite the challenges that may get in the way. Great story to spark a larger discussion on ability, friendship, and difference. Thanks for the free copy, I'll be using it soon. ( )
