Excerpt: The manga and anime Ouran High School Host Club by Bisco Hatori centers around a group of students attending fictional Ouran High School. It is a prestigious academy, generally attended by students from wealthy aristocratic families. Much of the series takes place within the Ouran host club, a student run club where beautiful, charismatic male students entertain female students, more often than not playing on stereotypical fantasies often found in Japanese manga. The club was created, and is presided over, by Tamaki Suoh, the son of the school's chairman. Suoh hand-picked most of the club's members for different qualities which he thought would create a rounded aesthetic and personality base for the club's purpose. The exception to this is new scholarship student Haruhi Fujioka who stumbles across the club room while trying to find a quiet place to study. After accidentally breaking a very expensive vase she ends up indebted to the club, forced to join and work as a host in order to pay off this debt. Each club member plays a specific role in the club's demographic, Mori being the strong silent type, Honey the boy lolita type, Kyoya the cool type, Hikaru and Kaoru the little devil type, Tamaki the princely type, and Haruhi enters the club as the natural type. In addition to the club members, the cast consists of their many customers and associates, as well as various family members, schoolmates, rivals and other characters that come and go.
