I couldn't finish this book. I got to the 2/3 point and realized that I didn't need to be taking endless advice from this woman. Explanation of rating:

1 star - She's funny. I like her humor.
2 star - She gave good advice. I learned to write shitty first drafts and then read them over a month later and edit the shit out of them.
3-5 stars - This was boring. I do not want someone to lecture me for an entire book. The writing had no life. ( )

This felt like a better book the first time, when I was much younger, and thought, with Lamott, that every failure would result in my death. And if not my own death, I would daydream about someone else coming to harm for their undeserved success. Understandable. Self-doubt is real, but I could do without some of the strained analogies. It just makes it seem like she doesn't have any real problems in her life.

Some useful reminders: shitty first drafts, short assignments, have friends who read, editing sucks. Chapter on notecards is outdated. ( )

Maybe it's the pandemic but I couldn't finish this. It was good but I lost all oomph about 3/4 of the way in. ( )
