Sometimes it's hard being a goldfish stuck in a bowl, and sometimes it's hard being a kid in the summer in the city. Three siblings get a happy jolt of excitement when a city fountain is repaired, and a sign goes up: "Calling all goldfish looking for a summer home." The children bring their three fish to the fountain, along with many other children, and reclaim them (or possibly different fish) at the end of the summer.

Author's note: "This is a true story that happened in New York City over the summers of 1992 to 2005." ( )

An old fountain in a big-city neighborhood is in disrepair and covered in ivy but H, Little O and Baby Em think it is beautiful. One day a sign appears at the fountain "calling all goldfish looking for a summer home." The kids are thrilled that their goldfish will get to take a vacation in the fountain. A man spends several days repairing and cleaning the fountain and on the appointed day, children come from all over with their goldfish. Inspired by the Hamilton Fountain in New York City and its history. ( )

This is a perfect little story that makes the imagination come alive. Sally wove some fiction into the retelling of a true story about a fountain in NYC. My girls enjoyed every page. ( )

A wonderful story of children bringing their goldfish to a renovated fountain in their neighborhood to spend summer vacation. The children as well as the goldfish had a great summer spending time with each other instead of staying in their apartments. A story of how one caring person can change so many lives. Children will love the illustrations. This story is based on real events. ( )
