The Friends of the Newport Ship dedicate this guide to Kate Hunter who died in January 2010. Kate was the real unsung hero of the project. She was the Conservator for Newport Museum and among other duties had been responsible for the conservation of a Romano-Celtic boat from Barland's farm near Newport. After the recovery of the Newport Ship she was appointed Project Leader of the ship, and continued to be the driving force behind the project until her retirement due to ill health. She saw the project through many difficult stages and was, for a crucial period, an expert voice within the City Council able to advise on what was really needed to recover the ship. It was her abilities and enthusiasm that involved so many people in the project and helped raise the considerable funds needed to enable the project to succeed.
