New York Times bestselling author of The Witch's Daughter Paula Brackston returns to her trademark blend of magic and romance to launch a new series guaranteed to enchant her audience even more. Xanthe and her mother Flora leave London behind for a fresh start, taking over an antique shop in the historic town of Marlborough. Xanthe has always had an affinity with some of the antiques she finds. When she touches them, she can sense something of the past they come from and the stories they hold. So when she has an intense connection to a beautiful silver chatelaine she has to know more. It's while she's examining the chatelaine that she's transported back to the seventeenth century. And shortly after, she's confronted by a ghost who reveals that this is where the antique has its origins. The ghost tasks Xanthe with putting right the injustice in its story to save an innocent girl's life, or else it'll cost her Flora's. While Xanthe fights to save her amid the turbulent days of 1605, she meets architect Samuel Appleby. He may be the person who can help her succeed. He may also be the reason she can't bring herself to leave. With its rich historical detail, strong mother-daughter relationship, and picturesque English village, The Little Shop of Found Things is poised to be a strong start to this new series.… (mere)

The Little Shop of Found Things by Paula Brackston

Xanthe and her mom have just bought an antique shop in Marlborough and very strange place...perfect for both to rebuild their lives. Xanthe has a special talent. She can hear some objects "speak" to her and is able to hear their story and even help put some restless ghosts at peace in the process. The home & shop they bought has is own resident ghost as Xanthe is soon to uncover and the ghost threatens to hurt Xanthe's mom if she doesn't help her.

Welcome to the Little Shop of Found Things, where ancient history comes to life!

Xanthe Westlake has a gift: sometimes when she touches old objects, they ‘sing’ to her and tell her their stories. When she and her mother move to a quaint little town to open an antique shop, she encounters a piece that calls to her more strongly than she has ever experienced. The next thing she knows, Xanthe is falling back through time, trying to rescue a servant girl unjustly accused of theft … and possibly falling in love with a man who has been dead and gone for five hundred years.

Slow and rich and beautiful! This little time-travel adventure is the first in a series, but I thought the ending felt perfect as a standalone. So I would be very excited to dive into the next one, but until then I am completely satisfied with how this one turned out! ( )

This is such a great time travel book with characters you can relate to. You will fill transported to the time and setting of the book. Historical detail is very well done and researched. I was pulled into this book from page one and did not want to put it down. The time travel scenes were extremely well written
This is the first book I have read by this author but I will definitely be reading more. 5 stars for me. ( )

After a short break, I went back to this one and was able to finish it. As with all books, I feel the reader must be in the right mindset no matter what the subject is of the book. Perhaps I was just not in the right frame of mind for a book that requires you to suspend reality in order to believe the words on the pages. I definitely enjoyed the book better when I went back in the second time. ( )

This was a fun book. Twist on the Outlander idea but with a mystery added in. Will seek the next in the series but not rushing to get to it. ( )
