$20 for 50 postcards, so 40 cents a card. Not bad considering most touristy places charge at least $1.00 per postcard, sometimes more. Still, would I ever mail these? I mean, they look so nice, too beautiful for just regular mail. Sorry, Post Office. lol

You know the flimsy postcards that are barely thicker than printer paper? These are way better than those. Upon opening the box, I found the cards divided into sections by type of bird: waterfowl, woodpeckers, wading birds, songbirds, and owls and raptors.

The quality of the paper, as well as the stunning artwork, is enough to make the owner want to keep rather than give away any of these cards. I know of at least one person in my life that might really appreciate this set, as she’s gotten into bird photography lately. But these would be really nice framed on a wall. I suppose they could be used as gift tags for presents.

Other ideas for using these postcards:

Coasters: I think they’d be nice as a set of coasters (though rather large ones, unless trimmed), provided you use mod podge and a hard backing to support (like a tile or thick cork board).
Paperweights: Again, I think mod podge would work in this instance.
Wraparounds: softening the cards, they can be used as covers for tins, lampshades and more.
Recipe cards: With these cards neatly packaged as a set, I could see using them as recipe cards. Keeping them in the box would ensure they last a long time and could be passed down to the next generation.
Postcard gallery: Don’t just display one. Arrange them all together in a unique style and pattern as a gallery of bird sketches.
Retail price: $19.99

At first, I’d questioned the cost. Was it worth it? $20 (or £20, per Amazon UK). When I broke down the price, that’s when I realized that you’re getting a lot, making the cards less in cost than the average tourist shop. Double boxed, well-organized, high-quality postcards for $20 is worth it. If you know of a bird lover (or anyone that loves animals) this would make an excellent gift. I’m torn on whether to give it to one person or split up the cards and share with several. I received this complementary set in exchange for my honest opinion.

If you have any ideas on how you’d repurpose postcards, let me know! ( )

Over the years, I have spent many hours along beaches and in observation (lookout) towers.
It is calming to lookout through the binoculars and view waterfowl, raptors, country birds and those moving through the area.

If you are unable to climb a tower, a boardwalk running through the woods, is often accessible and provides an awesome view of the wetlands close-up.

Yes, the images above are some of my favorite places to view birds. And with that said,I simply adore this box set of lovely postcards!

Sibley Birds Of Land, Sea, And Sky provides a box set of watercolors of waterfowl, wading birds, songbirds, raptors and owls by renowned ornithologist David Allen Sibley. And while I was provided this lovely collection for an honest review, it will remain complete, and I will be purchasing another for use.

A gorgeous set, perfect for gifting!

(Full disclosure: I received a free product for review through Blogging for Books.)

This isn't the first collection of postcards I've received/reviewed, but it's easily the most gorgeous and well-designed set I've ever seen. The fifty postcards - which feature paintings by ornithologist David Sibley - are printed on heavy cardstock and have beveled edges, giving them an extra-sophisticated look.

They come housed in a handsome, sturdy, multi-layer storage box that you'll want to hang onto long after you've sent the last postcard out into the wild (assuming you can bear to part with them!). It's got a textured feel to it, kind of like canvas, and the insert's luxurious gold color complements the beige outer box nicely. And of course several birds grace the exterior of the box as well!

Inside, the postcards are divided by type of bird - waterfowl, woodpeckers, wading birds, songbirds, and owls & raptors - and each section is marked by a differently-colored file tab. It rather reminds me of those sets of wildlife cards that were advertised on kid's tv shows in the '80s.

This is a really upscale set; if you have a birdwatcher in your circle, Sibley: Birds of Land, Sea, and Sky: 50 Postcards would make an excellent birthday gift or stocking stuffer. Maybe throw in a frame or two, because they're sure to want to keep at least a few of their favorites for their own (the Boreal Owl, anyone?).
