"The Mummy, meets Relic, meets Alien in this scary action driven horror thriller." An action adventure monster horror Concealed in a remote area of the Amazon jungle is something the Mayans thought so dangerous they built a secret prison to entomb it. It remained undiscovered for centuries. When a maverick archaeologist hears rumours of a mysterious lost city, he heads into the Amazon jungle, determined to find it. He soon learns that some things are best left unfound. The dangerous past the Mayans tried so hard to bury, is about to become our terrifying future. (Includes Horror Island sample) "Hammott is fast becoming the master of monster horror. Read his Ice Rift or Horror Island books and you'll know what I mean. Fantastic escapism." "The author has such a creative mind it's scary. The monsters he brings alive in his books are simply terrifying. Add atmospheric locations, characters you root for, racked up tension, a thrilling plot that forbids you to stop reading, and you have Sarcophagus."… (mere)

I am really disappointed in this book. It is a self-published "action adventure monster thriller" and you can tell that there was little to no professional oversight, such as a proof reader. I am about half way through and have seen many typos, poor grammar, use of the wrong word and misspellings. It is full of anachronisms and the pointless introduction of characters and backstories for other characters that are only mentioned in passing. The majority of the action so far has been drawn-out details of bumbling buffoon villains meeting their demise that has lasted for several pages without advancing the plot in any way whatsoever. The plot itself is the formulaic cliche of a mysterious monster and some bloody deaths. Luckily I was in the market for just that. However, this book was so poorly written that my desire for a monster story was overshadowed and I found it very difficult to finish reading. Save your time on this one and try Pulse by Jeremy Robinson or Relic by Preston and Child. They are also monster stories but have been edited so that you are not distracted by things such as the author's inability to choose the correct homo-phonic word. (Think "there, their, the're" or "bear, bare") ( )
