I'm starting to think that Higgins might have a golden touch. ( )

Lots of high ratings and a nominee for Best Children's book by Goodreads. A cute story about a dinosaur having a tough time making friends after eating her classmates. Also, a colossal example of bad parenting as Penelope's father decides after the first day of school to counsel her not to eat her classmates, and only gives her one juice box with 300 tuna sandwiches. Penelope learns her lesson when the tables are turned by an unexpected party. ( )

In the book, We Don't Eat Our Classmates by Ryan T. Higgins, Penelope Rex faces a daunting task ahead of her - starting grade school. Much to her surprise, her classmates are not fellow dinosaurs, but actual children! This situation tests Penelope's appetite and desire to fit in. Her decision causes her to be an outcast at school. The other children are scared of Penelope since she can’t seem to stop eating them. She becomes lonely without a friend in the world. One day, she tries to befriend the class pet. Their encounter changes her viewpoint. This book is delightful and funny while teaching children a lesson. The illustrations are silly especially when Penelope is seen with her cheeks stuffed with a single child’s shoe hanging out. Penelope and her plight garners sympathy from the reader because she seems genuinely sorry for her actions. The book gives a final warning about who the reader should really be worried about and it is not Penelope Rex. ( )

Penelope, the T-Rex, can't help eating her new classmates because they are delicious so she isn't making many friends. After Walter, the goldfish, bites her finger she is able to assert some self-control. Wonderfully inclusive classroom and, of course, the teacher is named: Mrs. Noodleman. A very nice note from Penelope at the beginning of the story assures readers that T-Rexes are extinct and can't eat them really. Hilarious read-aloud. Curriculum tie-in: starting school, making friends, self-control, dinosaurs
