Talk about a compromising situation A storm of political intrigue, murderous mayhem and sexual hungers is brewing on planet Regelence. Swarthy Intergalactic Navy Captain Nathaniel Hawkins ran from a past he had no intention of ever reliving. But when his Admiral asks him to use his peerage, as an earl and the heir to a dukedom, to investigate a missing weapons stash, he's forced to do just that. As if being undercover on a Regency planet where the young men are supposed to remain pure until marriage isn't bad enough, Nate finds himself attracted to the king's unmarried son. All Prince Aiden Townsend has ever wanted was to be an artist. He has no interest in a marriage of political fortune or becoming a societal paragon. Until he lands in the arms of the mysterious Earl of Deverell. One look at Nate's handsome face has Aiden reconsidering his future. Not only does Nate make a virile subject for Aiden's art, but the great war hero awakens feelings in Aiden he has never felt, feelings he can't ignore. After a momentous dance at a season ball, Aiden and Nate find themselves exchanging important information and working closely together. They have to fight their growing attraction long enough to find out who stole the weapons and keep themselves from a compromising situation and certain scandal. Warning, this title contains the following: explicit sex, graphic language, violence, hot nekkid man-love.… (mere)

Not as good as the first time around, maybe 3.5 stars.

Insane amount of characters with nick-names, titles and birth-names drove me almost to the mad house this time. How did I keep up in the first place, I have no idea - this is clearly some kind of name porn read. Chadwick, Coldwell, Cony, Jeremy, Jensen, Benson, Braxton.... what the hell happened to all the other letter in the alphabet? Why so many of them have to start with the same letter?

In contrast, Nate calling Aiden "boy" in the second part drove me crazy, too. It's your spouse, you moron! And a prince! Show some respect! :/ Arghhh!

There are inconsistencies and holes in the story, but - whatevers, it was still a fun read (even tho for the life of me I can't understand why not install a gps on your lift or a tracker app on your tablet).

Rounding up to 4 stars here on GR :) ( )

I don't quite know how I feel about this story. On the one hand, once I'd finally got my head around the mashup of sci-fi and regency I actually enjoyed the storyline. On the other I felt like the author had opened a box marked 'kinky sex shit' and chucked the entire thing at her manuscript. We had: voyeurism, masturbating while knowingly being watched, virgin sex (penetration) twice in the same night, spanking, public blowjob/whore fantasy, thoughts of floggers, and in the epilogue, a collar and fisting. Seriously, fisting? This guy had been a virgin who was brought up to not even touch himself because he should save himself for his wedding night but somewhere between a couple of weeks and a couple of months (time line is sketchy) after losing his virginity he's up for being fisted. And with little to no prep. 1 finger, 2 fingers, 3 fingers, 4 fingers, fold in the thumb and that's where the book stopped. And all these things took place without any discussion either before or after.
I hated that Nate called Aiden 'boy' both in and out of bed. There was an age gap between them but I don't think we were ever actually told what it was. Nate had been disowned 18 years earlier so he had to be late thirties. Aiden's parents had been married 22 years and Aiden wasn't the oldest brother (I think he was the middle child) so he could only have been between 18 and 20.
On to the plot. thinking back on it now I'm not sure I know what happened, for me it got lost behind the endless sex scenes. I enjoyed certain aspects of the plot but the underlying 'why' and exactly 'what' is beyond me. I know this isn't finished, the overall threat is still out there allowing for further books that will undoubtedly either confuse me further or explain everything.
So to sum up, I'm conflicted and I've not even touched on the whole issue of genetically modifying males to be attracted to the same sex or the almost complete lack of women in the story.

Note: I read the ebook not the paperback but as usual GRs added the paperback to the currently reading shelf not the edition in my library :/ (What is with that?) I wanted to keep my status updates so I've placed this review on both editions of the book.

dates are most recent re-read. wouldn't have expected a year ago that some of my most treasured comfort reads would be MM romances. love this story and its sequel, and am excited for the third one late this year. ( )

The world building in this fic was really great. I was surprised how well regency and sci fi could go together. I loved the first half of the book, but I felt like the second half needed more action/plot to balance some really hot sex scenes. The characters solved the problems they encountered too easily. ( )
