You Can't Go Home Again...But Hunter Agency operative Kimmer Reed has to. She'd fled as a teen, swearing never to return, but now--vastly changed, greatly disguised--her latest assignment has brought her back. Still, watching over a computer genius who also has her own bodyguard should be a piece of cake--after all, who'd think to look for Carolyne Carlsen here?Surprise. Everyone. And so Kimmer plays a dangerous cat-and-mouse game to keep her mission hidden, the genius protected--and the bodyguard far, far away.... ~~~"Imagine the pace of the TV show Alias, the smart, emotional whammy of Buffy, and characters you care about every minute."--Julie Czerneda, Aurora-winning Author of the Night's Edge series… (mere)

This was a fun read with a typical plot. I found the main character more likable as the book went on and enjoyed learning what happened in her childhood, shaping who she became as an adult. ( )

I received this free copy as part of the Library Thing early reviewers offers. Strong women have become a genre in their own right in the past 20 years and this is a good example of the "She's strong and no one knows it" genre rather than "She is strong and people know it" which would include female police, soldiers, politicians, civil rights workers lawyers etc. Any way, we have a woman with an impossibly weird name - no one is called Jane these days (also statistically true, Jane is a very uncommon name), . She is on protection duty and has to team up with another security agent - male in this case to protect the woman who has found the glitch in the weapons program. This is part of a series introducing agents from their agency and how they pair up to become emotional as well as working partners. Really a Mills and Boon on adrenaline, but may appeal to men as well as women. ( )

I wasn't able to get into this book, so I did not finish reading it. I might try again at a later date and re-review if I read it. ( )

Kimmer has remade herself into a kick-ass action hero after escaping an untenable family situation. Now she finds herself back in her old stomping grounds to secretly protect a scientist on the run. Not only has she to dodge the demons of her past, she has to slide under the radar of her assignment's self-appointed bodyguard, and he's ex-CIA.
Kimmer's an engaging heroine and having a bit of her past collide with her present made me interested a little in future adventures. Rio and Kimmer are a good fit and I like that the door is open for further developments. The action often verges on slapstick as Kimmer foils a series of incompetent bad guys and tries to appear as an innocent bystander to all the mayhem.
Definitely worth a read. ( )

This action-packed novel is well written with well developed characters. Even though I found some parts of the storyline are not easy to follow and the plot is slow at some points, it still keeps me reading to the last. The ending is quite satisfying with a sweet promise.

An enjoyable action read.
