In 2204, humanity is expanding into the wider galaxy in leaps and bounds. Cutting-edge technology of linked jump gates has rendered most forms of transportation-including starships-virtually obsolete. Every place on Earth, every distant planet humankind has settled, is now merely a step away from any other. And all seems wonderful-until a crashed alien spaceship of unknown origin is found on a newly located world eighty-nine light-years from Earth, carrying a cargo as strange as it is horrifying. To assess the potential of the threat a high-powered team is dispatched to investigate. But one of them may not be all they seem . . . Bursting with tension and big ideas, Salvation is the first book of an all-new series that highlights the inventiveness of an author at the top of his game.… (mere)

DNF. This book started strong with an interesting idea: Finding an intact spaceship with humans in stasis 89 light years from earth. How did they get there? Let's go and see. But first let's burn up a long chapter with some YA astro-ball game with a whole host of characters with tongue-twisting names. I don't have the patience to keep up with an ever-expanding group of characters. It appears that Hamilton is using this novel to set up a story for later novels. My mistake; I thought it was a stand-alone novel. ( )

It was a little slow to get going but oh how Hamilton finishes a book. The ending was full of shock and awe. Can't wait to read the next one. ( )

Volume conclusivo di una saga di tre. Fino al secondo volume la storia ha retto molto bene; ma tre romanzi sono stati probabilmente troppo per questa storia.
Megli sarebbe stato, penso, condensare tutto in due romanzi. ( )

The story looked promising at first. I got a little put out though, when it became apparent that alternate chapters were 2 separate stories, in two different timelines, which did nothing but confuse things. Then the stories degraded into strangeness.... All the mainline characters are supposed to be long-lived and intelligent adults, but there discussions are senseless and illogical. The subline story is also disjointed by all young characters that act sensibly, but the events around them don't make sense! DNF @about halfway through ( )
