I liked this book. It wasn't as good as the first in the series. Last day on Mars found a way to get an interesting story out of only one day, while this one too over 30 years. It was a little disheartening that it felt like the whole first book was taken out of effect by the actions in the first chapter being told from Phoebe's perspective.

Otherwise as a stand alone story it's good. An entire alien population is eliminate by human society bombs in hopes of making their planet inhabitable for human life
The remnant of that population attempts to destroy the human race to make up for it. A third rent may be the real cause trying to destroy many stars. A little wonky time travel has minimal impay on the story line. ( )

Excellent YA Science Fiction with a killer ending. ( )

My son and I read the first book, Last Day on Mars, and immediately ordered this sequel. It was just as exciting, but this book is definitely a little more brain bending as Liam and Pheobe dabble in the space/time continuum.

Now alone in space, trailing the Scorpius, Liam and Pheobe are trying to figure out who blew up the last station, who is "the Drove" and what do they want, and is humanity's migration plan really safe and secure?

Unfortunately book three isn't out yet, so once you speed through the first two you'll have to sit tight and await the third, The Shores Beyond Time (Chronicle of the Dark Star), due out Feb 12, 2019. ( )

Literary Merit: Excellent
Characterization: Outstanding
Recommend: To everyone I know
Level: Middle School
Wow what a ride! I couldn’t put this down. So many twists and turns, and all that action! Highly recommend to middle grade readers looking for a fantastic space adventure with loads of suspense and two heroes you live to root for. The beginning of this book blew me away and as more was revealed I kept wanting even more. That ending has me on the edge of my seat waiting for the best book ( )
