'This is the story Of Alison Hubble, Who went to bed single, And woke up double.' Here, in verse, are the hilariously original stories of a mighty slide, a man who fought crocodiles, a girl who doubled, a couple of baby skinners and a thing that lived under a school. A wonderful collection from Allan Ahlberg, author of 'Please Mrs Butler, Woof!' and 'Happy Families', illustrated throughout with delightful drawings by Charlotte Voake. "The five stories in verse in the Mightly Slide are narrative poems to rival The Pied Piper and The Highwayman. Alberg never falters whether dealing with a child's experience on a winter's day in the school playground, or with Captain Jim who gave crocodiles what for with 'his bare hands and a cricket cat' Wonderful!

i dont think that I have ever read narrritive poetry until now, how strange. I know I like narritives I know I like some poetry, but do I like the two together. seems like the answer is yes. As with all poetry I found that this took more concentration to read than just a story and i wondered whether this was worth the effort. However reading just the first of this collection "the mightly slide" I cannot see how this could be written in prose with anything like the same effect that Ahlberg manages to achieve.
I am not convinced that narrative poems with ever be popular with the general reading public, especially kids. But this book is worth suggesting
