DR BLOODMONEY OR HOW WE GOT ALONG AFTER THE BOMB (original 1965; udgave 1965)

I like PKD. I like post-apocalyptic worlds (especially post global thermonuclear exchange post-apocalyptic worlds). This book really should have been 5 stars, but somehow wasn't quite, especially compared to how great it could have been, but was still very good.

Interesting non-spoiler details: set in the SF Bay Area. Lots of interesting/weird characters. Would make a great "cult" movie if it could be produced for $5-20mm (probably wouldn't make sense as a $100mm movie). Also, learned a new word from this book: "Phocomelia" ( )

Siete años después del día de las bombas, Point Reyes puede considerarse un lugar bastante afortunado. Sus habitantes son razonablemente normales -excepto por la niña que lleva a su hermano siamés creciendo en su estómago-, su economía basada en el trueque parece funcionar y sus genios residentes pueden arreglar casi todo lo que se estropea. Pero esta situación puede irse al traste si los habitantes descubren que están protegiendo, sin saberlo, al hombre que provocó la tercera guerra mundial y la muerte de millones de personas por radiación nuclear.

Love PKD and the COVID19 pandemic should be a perfect time for this, but the story just missed in many ways. ( )

I loved this one. Had a sprawling plot that wove surreal elements together and came to a bizarre and horrifying climax before ending. The last few pages managed to give that warm glow of a good story having been completed. ( )
