Fiction. Mystery. HTML:

Welcome to Nocturne Falls, the town that celebrates Halloween 365 days a year.

Jayne Frost is a lot of things. Winter elf, Jack Frost's daughter, Santa Claus's niece, heir to the Winter Throne and now...private investigator. Sort of.

When Lark Bramble, an old frenemy, shows up in Nocturne Falls, Jayne finds herself reliving the painful past and trying to make responsible decisions that won't mess up her future. But being an adult proves harder than she thought.

Finally at peace with where things stand between her and Lark, Jayne thinks everything's cool until a chilling event at the Black and Orange Ball shatters that peace and puts Jayne at odds with the powers that be. She knows she's on thin ice, but she's determined to crack the caper.

Can Jayne find a way to right the wrongs she might have caused or will she forever bear the guilt of allowing herself to be snowed again?

Jayne Frost is back! In this fourth book in the Nocturne Falls cozy mystery series, Jayne is still figuring out what to do about her vampire/elf situation (I’m starting to lean Cooper—that winter elf, summer elf thing has its appeal and who doesn’t like hot firefighters?), and now there’s a new guy on the scene in the form of Sinclair—resident necromancer.

Also, things in town are gearing up for the Orange and Black Halloween Ball. Jayne’s nemesis Lark comes to town (she’s the one who broke her and Cooper up) and wants to be the DJ. Can she be trusted and has she changed her evil ways? Also, suddenly there are lots of robberies occurring in ordinarily sleepy Nocturne Falls. (And pancakes. Lots of pancakes. Because, this is Jayne. Mmmm…) When jewelry is stolen from the ball, Jane has to team up with her friends to figure out which supernatural or supernaturals are responsible.

Please excuse typos/name misspellings. Entered on screen reader.

Well... I've liked these books before and the problems with Jayne and dating continued in this one... I like the writing, I love the setting and the town and the people, but I have real issues with this dating style. If Jayne was polyamorous and the guys totally ok with everything, then it would be a different thing, but this is just not ok.

So, the ending with her dating only one guy was actually nice. But, I don't like it happened like that. She still didn't make a decision. And she was mourning after losing 2 of the 3 guys she was dating. I can't help to think she's just super spoiled. And I don't understand how the guys stayed for so long. No matter how awesome she is and I'm not sure I see her awesomeness. She's a great friend, but I don't think she makes a particularly great girlfriend. I'm also a bit disappointed about the whole Greyson confrontation even if I was on team Cooper. And it was a bit much of Jayne to complain she was dumped by him and Cooper, since she didn't want to make a choice to date either one of them. They don't need to take her shitty behavior forever... to be fair, I wouldn't have taken it this long...

The mystery sort of took it's time. It only started like half way. This part of the book was great as always. I felt like I really wanted to know how things end. And I see some of it coming, but not all. But I don't mind if I saw things coming, I liked the way things were unveiled. So, I would say the mystery was as enjoyable as ever, but the love life, not so much... luckily I read some of the reviews when I was contemplating lemming it, I decided to see what the mystery was and in the end I was rewarded. Miss Frost Cracks a Caper by Kristen Painter

4th in the paranormal mystery series set in the town of Nocturne Falls where everyday is celebrated as Halloween.

Over and above solving mysteries as kind of a hobby, Jayne Frost manages the Christmas shop in town. She also has two men fighting for her time and attention. When the men are called away and unable to attend the Black and Orange Ball, Sinclair the necromancer steps up to escort Jayne.
Jayne has a new man in her life now. And donuts.

This book may make you hungry. Jayne likes her sweets and food. Both are mentioned often. ( )
