Interesting book about a teenager learning that she is a witch. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. Disclaimer: I received this book for free from LibraryThing in return for an honest review.Sixteen-year-old Hannah Fitzgerald is a witch but she would rather be an ordinary girl. After the death of her parents, Sixteen-year-old Hannah Fitzgerald goes to live with her Aunt J. Hannah is a witch but she would rather be an ordinary girl. But that isn't possible for Hannah since their is a prophecy stating two of the witches in Hannah's generation will be powerful witches however one will die before her seventeenth birthday marking the beginning of the next chapter of the coven for good or evil. Hannah is one of those witches. But who is the other? Who is the mysterious W? And why does he want to help Hannah? Overall I really enjoyed this book. Once I started reading it I could not put it down. However I did find myself getting confused at points. It felt like I was missing some background information. Almost like this book was the second book in the series which I am not sure it is. That being said, I still really enjoyed this book and would recommend it for fans of the fantasy genre and young adult literature. This review was written for LibraryThing Early Reviewers. I really enjoyed this book! It was the right amount of witchcraft and mystery. Hannah is struggling to come to terms with what she is and just wants to be ordinary, however there are girls at school that are pushing her to be something else. I received a copy of this e-book through the LibraryThing Early Reviewers program.I'm finding it difficult to write this review, because most of the time I receive free books, it's without strings attached. If the book is a typical indie author offering, I can quit partway through, and no one need be the wiser, including the author. I don't feel any great need to warn other readers away; if they want to wrestle with the giant slush pile that is publishing in the age of Amazon, they're welcome to it. Besides, one person's frog is another's handsome prince, right? It also seems callous to tell authors to hire a better editor, or give feedback the way one would in a writing workshop. It's not as if the book is going to be revised. It's also not as if the author hasn't heard advice like "show, don't tell," or "choose your words carefully" before. There do seem to be some influences of a writing course or other conventional wisdom in _Bewitching Hannah_: vivid adjectives, some loving descriptions (would they were of settings, and not the heroine's Starbuck's treat!), and a surprise ending (guess the part of the course that explained that a good twist should have the reader saying "wow! I should have seen that coming!" not "where the did THAT come from?" was missed). So: The publisher promises escapist fiction and delivers. There are some grammatical errors, but not enough to be distracting. The effort to capture teen diction is more painful than effective ("chillax"? -- seriously?). Overall, harmless to adults. I have reservations about allowing teens and tweens to read this, even in the absence of sex, violence, or anything else objectionable. Young writers learn by reading good writing. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse
Sixteen-year-old Hannah Fitzgerald has always known she is descended from a troubled legacy of dark magic. Although a stranger to her coven in Annapolis, she is no stranger to grief and denial. However, when an ancient prophecy reveals the rise of a young, powerful witch and the impending death of another, she realizes she can no longer afford to suppress the magic that has taken away so much. She seeks out the frighteningly scarred, yet mysterious W who is destined to change her life, but even he cannot prepare her for the danger that lies ahead. Engaged in a deadly game and not knowing whom her true rival is, Hannah isn't certain she will survive, and if she loses, she may lose everything, including the ones she loves. Bewitching Hannah is an enchanting young adult paranormal romance that eventually pulled me in with a variety of magic and great characters. The beginning had a lot of information to take in and it seemed like I had missed something and needed to catch up. However, once Hannah was in school and the other witches found her, the suspense, danger and mystery quickly ramped up. I loved that so many magical being lived under the noses of everyday people in Annapolis and that their power was tied to history and culture. I enjoyed watching Hannah grow and make decisions as she came to terms with her magic with the help of the mysterious W. W added a touch of sweet romance and a bit of a Beauty and the Beast feeling. The ending tied everything together with an exciting and twisty display of magic . Complete with witches, curses, ghosts, and shapeshifters, Bewitching Hannah is a perfect Halloween time read.
