Q3

This book is 6 of the most important decisions you will ever have to make. #1 is "School", it is about how important school is for your future. #2 is "Friends", it is about how important being and having TRUE friends are. #3 is "Parents", it is about parents are, and why you should be kind to them. #4 is "Dating and Sex", this is a section of warning about sex and dating tips. #5 is "Addictions", addictions can be good, but this is about bad addictions like Drugs. #6, the Final one, is "Self Worth", it is how you view yourself, and how to view yourself better.

This book gets a 4 1/2 for being very useful, but not very interesting. My favorite decision is #4, because it is something that should everyone should already know, and I will follow it without exception (meaning I will carefully date and have sex with the one I will marry, no one else). My least favorite is Addictions, because it reminds me how stupid TONS of people are, I mean, LOTS of drugs can kill, and some people sniff GLUE!! I recommend this book for people that feel like they need to change their life. I DO NOT recommend this book for people that are happy with how they are. This book is meant for teens, but it doesn't say that in the title. This book is written by the author of "The 7 Habits of Effective Teens", so there is a crash course in the 7 habits. ( )

This book was written for a teenager audience in order to guide teenagers in learning how to make effective, appropriate decisions now that will shape their lives for the future. Covey divides his chapters by topic, focusing on providing teenagers with applicable, relevant advice and information needed in order to make appropriate decisions. Covey supports his ideas with cartoons, graphics, and real-life stories. Because of the amount of information provided, this book may be best read by focusing on one chapter at a time. Highly recommended for high school students. ( )

I got this book out of the library because I am hoping to have my son read it — he’s 13 yrs old. But, before letting him read it, I wanted to preview it for myself, to be sure it’s appropriate and that the values inside match up with my own.

Sure enough, while it’s written mostly for those in high-school, my 13-yr-old will probably still get a lot out of it, and I believe it will actually be better for him to read it now, as it will help him be prepared for what’s to come.

The book talks about the 6 key areas of decision for young people:

• School
• Friends
• Parents
• Dating & Sex
• Addictions
• Self-Worth

Sean’s other book, “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens“, is also touched on throughout, as he brings the 7 Habits to play in each of the six decision areas.

I liked that Sean’s values weren’t in opposition to my own. And, I loved that the whole book is very motivating and encouraging. He lets teens know that they are able to control how they react to life, and that making wise choices will get them further than making unwise choices will. He shows the differences between both, and how it’s better to take the “high road” in each of the key areas.

I can’t recommend this book enough to teens, and to parents of teens — or anyone who has guardianship / influence over a teen, really! Like I said, it’s aimed at teens ages 14-19 yrs, but I think it’s even good enough for 12 yrs + to read, as it will give them a head-start (hopefully) in choosing wisely. ( )

Sean Covey teaches youth how to make good decisions in key areas of their lives through anecdotes, humor and sound principles in the very readable book. He builds upon the lessons from his first book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective Teens, and goes further to show how those habits can be utilized to make good decisions. If teens follow Covey's guidelines they will find themselves moving farther ahead than they believed they could without dragging a lifetime full of regrets. ( )

(2006) (SELF-HELP INFORMATIONAL TEXT)

In this follow up to his best-selling book, The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens, Sean Covey presents what he says are the 6 most important decisions teens will ever make. Using humor, cartoons, movie quotes, examples from his own life and tips shared by teens around the world, Covey presents teens with the challenge to make good decisions in all aspects of their lives.

This book is for teens and those who work with teens – parents, teachers, and youth leaders. In it, Covey shows that making good choices now can positively influence a teen’s health, wealth, and happiness in the future. The six areas covered consist of a choice, or series of choices, related to School, Friends, Parents, Dating and Sex, Addictions, and Self-Worth. For the most part, these are concepts that most teens already understand. What this book offers is a way for teens to actually apply them to their lives to yield positive results.

“Bad habits are like a comfortable bed: easy to get into but hard to get out of. On the other hand, once they’re in place, good habits are just as hard to break as bad ones.” Using these good habits to help make the 6 most difficult decisions of a teens’ life can make all the difference for their future.
