"Two best friends, 500 miles, one wheelchair, and the challenge of a lifetime. Friendship takes on new meaning in this true story of Justin and Patrick, born less than two days apart in the same hospital. Best friends their whole lives, they grew up together, went to school together, and were best man in each other's weddings. When Justin was diagnosed with a neuromuscular disease that robbed him of the use of his arms and legs, Patrick was there, helping to feed and care for him in ways he'd never imagined. Determined to live life to the fullest, the friends refused to give into despair or let physical limitations control what was possible for Justin. So when Justin heard about the Camino de Santiago, a 500-mile trek through Spain, he wondered aloud to Patrick whether the two of them could ever do it. Patrick's immediate response was: "I'll push you." I'll Push You is the real-life story of this incredible journey. A travel adventure full of love, humor, and spiritual truth, it exemplifies what every friendship is meant to be and shows what it means to never find yourself alone. You'll discover how love and faith can push past all limits--and make us the best versions of ourselves''- -… (mere)

I was moved. Noted and worth remembering, along with some glorious images:
p.133 "What church is supposed to mean - being a community"
p.136"There is a certain mystery to the Camino, one that turns strangers into friends by the end of the day."
p.142 What Church is not: a building, a doctrine, a way of saying we are right and others are wrong
What Church is: It is an existence grounded in loving God and loving other and drawing into the truth. What is the truth? That God's love is more powerful than any darkness we can face.
p.178 - on the nature of love, "Love pursues."
p.171 "I struggle with being fully present."

This is a curious, enchanting book: cowritten by two lifelong friends, one confined to a wheelchair and and almost dependent on others and one who willingly makes extraordinary efforts to share experiences and a particular adventure with his friend. These two men plan and manage to walk the full length of the Camino de Santiago from the French Pyrenees to Compostela in northwestern Spain. Along the way, each tells the story of his life and their friendship. Their mutual love is remarkable, and remarkably is supported by their respective families and other friends. ( )

Just a lovely book to read and absorb---an incredible friendship that is almost hard to believe except that you have two human beings who can explain it fairly well. Although they add God into their writing, the real "religion" here is a "friendship religion"---between Patrick and Justin but also along the way as they gather helpers. ( )

This book is rather 'hard to peg' -- on the surface, it is an adventure story, about two lifelong friends, one of them confined to a wheelchair owing to a progressively degenerating neuromuscular disease, who decide to make the 400 -mile Camino de Santiago (pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela in Spain). But the book is about so much more -- friendship, the unexpected kindness of strangers, the ability to give (and receive) love and assistance from others, and, ultimately, how to live a life of faith in God, not being driven by fear or a desire to control one's life circumstances. I found this volume encouraging, uplifting, moving, and funny in turns and recommend it highly. At its conclusion, I feel almost as if I, too, had been on the Camino...! ( )
