Interesting approach to language arts education. I tried a couple of the menus with my homeschooling son, and I can see how they could be useful in a classroom with students working at varying paces. ( )

I recieved this book, but I'm not a teacher. I actually gave it to a friend who does teach and she plans to start using it. I'm sure it'll work for her and she'll love it! ( )

I don't teach so I passed this along to one of my friends who is a teacher. She said that she loves it! The workbook was easy to follow and helped her out a lot when she was having trouble putting her lesson plans together. ( )

The things I took from the workbook:

*Greater sense of independence but are teachers (librarians) willing to give their students (patrons) a choice? Therefore, this book promotes and encourages students to be able to make choices to participate on specific menus after reading books or material.

"when teachers offer choice, students design and create a produce based on envision then the teacher's envisions (page 5)."

*produce what teachers want causes the students to lose interest or participation. Therefore, the best learning comes from students who have a desire to learn.

Moreover, there are proposal forms before the "free choice" begins (learning for students). It is teacher approved, points requested/approved, proposal outline which includes specific idea/topic and criteria. These are knowledge-based materials that are age or intellectually appropriate when making choice and working independently.

The students should be able to recall and engage in the activities. There is also an advance investigation to prep for potential questions, proficiency tests, and/or mini lessons recommended. I may use some of the recommended mini lessons for a book club that I am facilitating as a state librarian in the library I work for (3 libraries on site will all start with the proposed outline I have provided).

I received a physical copy from the publisher for an honest review on LibraryThing (contest win selection).

The rubrics and the different ideas for performance tasks are the most usable part of this book. However, it is a fairly useful book. ( )
