One podcast I really enjoy is 372 Pages We'll Never Get Back, hosted by Michael J. Nelson and Conor Lastowka, in which the hosts read a book that they expect they will not like. I decided to read along this time. What a mistake. This is the worst book I have ever read. The book stars Titus Uno, Certified Public Accountant, Forensic Certified Public Accountant, and Chartered Global Management Accountant (and every time he mentions his name he includes ALL of those titles). He is investigation a crime committed by the "cat burglar terrorist" who blew up the 64-SQUARES building. The first 16 chapters of the book serve as introductions to every character in the book and are full of extraneous and boring information as well as pointless repetition (seriously I don't need to be told that CEO stands for Chief Executive Officer every time the CEO's name is mentioned). The next five chapters consist of us being told at length and again with much repetition and extraneous detail what information needs to be discovered to solve the case. Then the next chapter is the court trial, which contains the only action taken by the protagonist throughout the whole book--giving a one paragraph statement during the trial--as well as a brief summary of the people involved in the crime, which makes no sense. Then the final chapter gives a summation of the book and explains the motives of the crime in greater detail though not enough detail to really make sense.

Essentially, this is a mystery in which the main character does almost nothing, almost nothing happens, and nothing is really explained very well. ( )

I actually won this KINDLE Edition of this book through an Amazon giveaway the author had back in July 2018 and the following is my honest opinion.

Besides being a book reviewer, I’m also an author. In addition to this, I’ve had a job as a Systems Analyst working for New York City and have written numerous items for a community of the course of several years.

Having written those items, it appears to me that the author, Dwight David Thrash, did actually have a story in his mind when he wrote this his debut novel, however the book is problematical. To begin with, instead of being of a fictional nature, there is too much of a journalistic style to the author’s writing, which itself needs a whole lot of editing so it reads well.

Having been a Systems Analyst, like the Forensic CPA protagonist of the story, I’d been drawn into doing a little analyzing of the book itself. The first thing that struck my eyes had been his overly repetitious use of the following:

“I, Titus Uno, Certified Public Accountant, Forensic Certified Public Accountant, and Chartered Global Management Accountant,”

Using the KINDLE find mode I found 90 matches for the above, examining the locations of these 90 matches I found
Page 6 with 2 matches
Page 7 with 7 matches
Page 8 with 4 matches
Page 9 with 4 matches
Etc

Breaking Page 7 down to the location for the matches, they were found to be, according to KINDLE at locations 78, 80, 84, 87, 89, 90 and 91. This indicates that these matches had been found to be almost on top of each other, which slows down the actual reading process. There are basically no pronouns in the entire book, and scarcely any dialogue which have given some life to this fictional storyline

The book I believe has far too many distractions that prevents it from becoming a truly enjoyable reading experience, which is why I’ve given the book’s author only 3 STARS for his endeavor, primarily for having made the effort he made in writing it. ( )
