[Fifty Reasons Why Jesus Came to Die] TO Jesus Christ Despised and rejected by men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief . . . we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned--every one--to his own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. . . .
He was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people. . . . There was no deceit in his mount. Yet is was the will of the LORD to crush him; he has put him to grief.

Come, lay your head here, little lamb, Your wool against my face; And feel your father's silent love, Secure in my embrace.
Come, lay your head close, little lamb, And listen to my heart; And memorize the message there, For when we are apart.
Come, lay your head now, little lamb, While there is still a place; I cannot promise life or strength, Nor shape tomorrow's grace.

Oplysninger fra den engelske Almen Viden Redigér teksten, så den bliver dansk. [Introduction to Collection] John Piper authored this set, but we have served as the general editors. [Preface to Vol. 1] The two books contained in this first volume of the 'Collected Works' stand apart as the only books I wrote before I was a pastor. [Preface to Vol. 2] It is the fall of 1983. [Preface to Vol. 3] Writing seems to be in my blood. [Preface to Vol. 4] On July 29, 1994, I wrote in my journal, "I am sitting in the little 8' by 15' trailer in the woods of Barnesville, Georgia . . . working on a book that I hope to call, 'Living by Faith in Future Grace'." [Preface to Vol. 5] The books in this volume grew out of a six-year period of my ministry from 1998 through 2004, [Preface to Vol. 6] In the writing of books, I owe more than anyone knows to the peculiar partnership I enjoyed with the pastoral staff, elders, and people of Bethlehem Baptist Church from 1980 to 2013.Epistles; and third, we must try to determine what form the command(s) had in that tradition. [Preface to Vol. 7] Cancer surgery in 2006 and the death of my father and granddaughter in 2007 are a few of the sorrows during the years when these four books were written. [Preface to Vol. 8] The five books included in this volume were published during 2010-2013. [Preface to Vol. 9] It brings me a great deal of pleasure at the beginning of this volume of collected biographies to pay tribute to a man without whom they would, in all likelihood, not exist. [Preface to Vol. 10] Two thins seem incontrovertible to me. [Preface to Vol. 11] I suppose you could say this volume is a nod to my conviction about the power of paragraphs and poetry. [Preface to Vol. 12] The issues I have written about over the years do not reflect the kind of plan on my part that envisions a great outcome, with each new article strategically designed to achieve that vision. [Preface to Vol. 13] In the 1559 edition of John Calvin's "Institutes of the Christian Religion", he wrote, quoting Augustine, "I count myself one of the number of those who write as they learn and learn as they write."

Oplysninger fra den engelske Almen Viden Redigér teksten, så den bliver dansk. [Preface to Vol. 1] Or as my favorite poet, George Herbert, put it: Of all the creatures both in sea and land Only to man Thou hast made known Thy ways. And put the pen alone into his hand. And made him secretary of Thy praise. (Klik for at vise Advarsel: Kan indeholde afsløringer.) [Preface to Vol. 2] Thus my prayer for those I love most, as you can see at the end of the preface to "The Pleasures of God." and now my prayer for you, is this: "In God's time, may your satisfaction in God be without measure, as it becomes the very pleasure of God in God." (Klik for at vise Advarsel: Kan indeholde afsløringer.) [Preface to Vol. 6] And finally, for the great follow-up work of discipling millions of new believers that God is bringing to himself around the world, I hope 'What Jesus Demands from the World' will prove a helpful resource for obeying Matthew 28:18-20. (Klik for at vise Advarsel: Kan indeholde afsløringer.) [Preface to Vol. 8] Whether the issue is racial harmony, or bittersweet providences, or the points of Calvinism, or the free offer of the gospel to every creature, the overarching, all-pervading, all-governing truth is this: "From him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen" (Rom. 11:36). (Klik for at vise Advarsel: Kan indeholde afsløringer.)
