Gotta say, this was really good. While I'm not sold on the central twist to the story (which I can't name without spoiling it), the rest of it was great. Dark, dark, dark.

Loved it. ( )

This is a great start, with a bit of gut-punch, to a new series about one of the few superhero comic book characters with so much depth. Like others among the best comic series out there, and like a lot of Brian Michael Bendis' work, it deals with serious matters and tends to twist the reader's brain a little bit.

If you like your superhero comics in four-color optimism, pick something else. If you like exploring shades of grey with some verisimilitude, deeply flawed characters with very real human feelings, and consequences for how people wield their powers in fantasy worlds normally devoid of those consequences, pick it up -- though I recommend reading the Alias series about Jessica Jones first. That earlier series is one of the best comic book story arcs I've read. ( )

I feel like ... I missed a prequel, or something?

I had lots of questions. I enjoyed the art style a lot and while I thought the writing of Jessica was consistent, her characterisation was not my favourite. It sounds funny but in my head, she swears a lot, and in this comic, purely because of the censors around the genre, I guess she couldn't?

I liked it and it was an easy read but it just didn't really jive with me, Iunno.

I feel like I should read more but I don't know if I should go forward or back. Man, comics are trippy. ( )

My first Jessica Jones graphic novel. She seems to be a reluctant superhero/private investigator. In this tale her life has gone off the rails. She is imprisoned, separated from her superhero husband and has taken their baby away from him. How low can she go? Artwork quite good and moody story ( )

Bendis resets Jessica Jones' status quo to better resemble her Netflix incarnation, but I'm not sure I'm interested in this regressed version of the character. It feels like a waste of fifteen years of character development, especially given the clumsy execution of the undercover storyline. Still, I'll probably take a look at the next volume to see Jones dig into the Illuminati's involvement in destroying alternate dimensions. That's a crime someone needs to address. ( )
