I liked that he wasn't going to bend to the ill-wishes of his chief, and that he looked out for his brothers. Suzanne Enoch manages to write two characters who could easily fall into the stereotypical Highlander Brute and English Lady but she manages to show a different side to them. Graeme, Laird Maxton, has been raising his 3 younger brothers since he was twenty. At 28, he is holding on to his land by his fingernails. The Maxwell, the Duke of Dunncraigh, would like nothing better than to have a reason to take over Maxton lands. His neighbor, the Duke of Lattimer, is English and fighting against the Maxwell. Lady Marjorie Forrester is sister to the Duke of Lattimer but until recently, she was a companion to older women. Now she might be a Lady but the ton doesn't forget. When she hers that her brother is getting married she decides to surprise him and travels to Scotland. Within 6 miles of her brother's home she is kidnapped by Graeme's younger brothers in an attempt to solve his Maxwell problems. Graeme must try to figure out how to keep everyone safe while he begins to feel and attraction to his "captive". She finds that Graeme is more honorable that she imagined and he discovers that Ree is not quite the lady she seems. This book was a delight to read and I truly came to care for the characters and their situation. I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review. Lady Marjorie is a social outcast in London. When she finds out her brother is about to be married, she sets out to attend the wedding, whether it's advisable or not. Lo and behold she is kidnapped by a band of ruffians and little does she realize the oldest is all of 16. But they honestly think they're helping their older brother. Graeme is desperately trying to hold on to his lands that has been in his family for generations when his brother kidnap his neighbors sister. And.... he cannot send Lady Marjorie back without his kin getting in trouble. What's a Highlander to do? Suzanne Enoch is one of my favorite authors and she did not disappoint with MY ONE TRUE HIGHLANDER. It has a good storyline and great character interaction, especially between Graeme and his brothers. The romance was a little too fast paced, it seemed they went from 0 to 60 in no time at all. But other than that it was a great read. I received a copy from the publisher via Netgalley for my honest opinion. ingen anmeldelser | tilføj en anmeldelse

Marjorie and Graham are a great pair, and I was just laughing and melting all the way through. Graham’s younger brothers—especially the 8-year-old animal lover Connell—brought an element of warmth and fun to the novel, and I loved how their impulsive actions resulted in a found family for Marjorie. I adored every scene with little Connell, and a big part of that was reader Flora Macdonald’s portrayal of him. She did a fantastic job with all the characters, and I hope to find more books with her as narrator.
I appreciate romances where the characters don’t beat around the bush about their feelings for each other. Graham and Marjorie don’t necessarily have a straight path to happiness, but I liked the honest way their romance progressed and that it wasn’t plagued by dumb misunderstandings. They both made assumptions about the other, but they were smart enough to recognize they were wrong and admit it once they did. I loved their banter.
Another detail I loved was that Marjorie’s companion Mrs. Giswell (not sure of the spelling since it was audio) wasn’t just a purse-lipped judgmental foil for Marjorie. Her own story didn’t take up a lot of space, but it was enough to make me fond of her and root for her.
This was delightful and is destined for the comfort read pile. ( )
