A very practical marriage makes Alexander Westcott question his heart in the latest Regency romance from the New York Times bestselling author of Someone to Hold.

When Alexander Westcott becomes the new Earl of Riverdale, he inherits a title he never wanted and a failing country estate he can't afford. But he fully intends to do everything in his power to undo years of neglect and give the people who depend on him a better life...

I enjoyed this book in this series. Mary Balogh is a go to author of historical romances for me. ( )

This was incredible. I read it in one sitting. Watching Wren come out of her shell was beautiful and heartbreaking. Only one complaint: when the Three Little Words are finally uttered, it's rather anticlimactic, on both sides. While it's not impossible to read as a stand-alone, it does have something of an ensemble cast from the previous books, so it might have been better to read this series in order, but I generally only read historical romances that cater to my favorite tropes. Still, if I was going to read a new HR author that did not have plump/plain/abused heroines (right now that only includes Courtney Milan, Julia Quinn, and Lisa Kleypas), Mary Balogh would be towards the top of the list. Oh, I'm really enjoying the Westcotts, and their emphasis on family -- in so many of these books it seems like the family part is just as important to the characters as the love affair. This one is Alexander and Wren's story. Looking forward to future developments with all the siblings/cousins. ( )

wonderful, heart-tugging ( )

I didn't care much for the first two books in this series, but this one was more believable and actually showed their feelings developing for each other (and some character growth). The first two thirds were quite good and I planned to give it four stars, but the last third dragged for me and wasn't as engaging. Regardless, it renewed my hope in the series as I continue on! ( )
