This is a book it would be difficult to say I enjoyed. The book is grim and frightening, but well written and able to hold the interest. It is the report of an insider in the "abortion wars" and his gradual journey through the horrors of a movement growing increasingly violent and murderous. He goes undercover in the movement he had once been part of, in order to save the lives of people he was strongly opposed to. This book is the report of his journey through the radical fringes of the movement, a radical fringe that has become more mainstream as time goes on. I find myself, at the end of the book, reaizing that my compassion for those pro-lifers who have a genuine hatred for abortion, but don't take up arms, has been misplaced. For anyone who has ever used the word "murder" to describe what occurs in an abortion, I hope this book will serve as a wake-up call. No matter how much you abhor the violence of the pro-life radicals, you are not innocent. This book is an honest reassessment by one man of his own role in this phenomenon, with a great deal of painful soul searching. The main reason it loses a star is the insistence of the author that the violent killers have never really read Jesus' words; if he himself had paid attention, he would realize that the violent perpetrators had, in fact, read the words of Jesus - the ones he himself skipped, and not the ones he favored. Other than that (an error common to so many writers that it has become a truly systemic flaw), the book is a very solid read. ( )
