**I received a copy of this upcoming book from Midnight Ink via NetGalley in exchange for a fair, honest review**

As if Yoga Instructor Kate Davidson's life wasn't already busy enough, now she is training to be a Doula for her pregnant best friend and fostering two foundling puppies. Even more chaos arises when Kate discovers the body of a local fertility doctor and sees one of her yoga students fleeing the murder scene. Believing her student to be innocent, Kate starts investigating the dead doctor, discovering he is a real cad, juggling several mistresses, a wife and family, and some less than savory business dealings.

This is an enjoyable, nicely paced, cozy mystery. There were several suspects, a few twists and turns and a sub-plot about puppy mills, backyard breeders and animal abuse. This is the fourth book in the Downward Dog Mystery series. This time, the usual yoga theme was a bit overtaken by Doula information and childbirth, but it was an enjoyable combination.

A Fatal Twist releases January 7th from Kensington Press. Any cozy mystery lover or yoga enthusiast will enjoy this book!

Kate Davidson is a yoga teacher with a knack for solving murders. This time around, Kate has taken on the role of a doula for her best friend Rene and somehow stumbles into another dead body. When good friend Rachel is suspected and then arrest for the murder of her philandering hubby, Kate jumps in to prove she isn’t guilty.

This is the fourth book in the series and is just as delightful as the first three. Kate is not only smart and resourceful, but she has a soft spot for helping people and animals. She is the friend you wish you had, especially if you are ever accused of murder.

The book is filled with a touch of romance, lots of humor, a great plot, and enough twists and turns to delight its readers.

A Fatal Twist Downward Dog Mystery book 4 by Tracy Weber is a fun, fast paced mystery with interesting characters in an unsual story.

Kate, who seems to be always busy and right in the middle of things, is once again stretching herself in many directions when she takes on being a doula for her friend, brings into her home with her dog Bella two cute little puppies, teaches her yoga class, finds a body and tries to prove one of her students isn't the murderer. Whew

This book has likeable characters like hard working, smart, kind Kate, her boyfriend Michael, and even Tiffany thrown in with dysfunctional ones like Rachel, Nicole and Justine. Then you have the despicable egotistical, mean , cheating Dr. Dick who right from the first I didn't like and wasn't surprised when he was the victim.
The story and plot is interesting and unique because not only do you have Kate being a yoga instructer but she also decides to be a doula for her friend which all works into being an important part of the story. It is interesting and the author weaves the information of being a doula, childbirth, yoga all into the story in a believable yet entertaining way so that it adds to the story and doesn't bog you down with too much information.
I have worked in a hospital with doctors who are egotistical and just like Dr. Dick so it was easy to believe his character. He is one you just like to hate.

I enjoyed this book even though I had not read any of the other books in this series. It can be read easily as a stand alone but I will be going back to read the other ones also.

If you like a good cozy mystery with strong characters, an unique plot, cute dogs and enough surprises to keep you reading you will like this book.

I look forward to reading the first 3 books in the series.

I received this book for my honest opinion and review. ( )

Kate is the main character in this cozy mystery. She has a great sense of empathy for others and I loved how she was determined to make sure the right killer was charged. She has one of these keen senses that lets her know when something is not right. I loved how the author talked about Kate learning to be a doula. I found it very interesting and learned something new. The yoga was so well described I think I could easily do some after reading the techniques that Kate does.

Kate is attending an open house at Lake Washington Medical Center where the new birthing facility is opening. It is a grand place with modern technology and all the comforts to make the parents feel relaxed. I can say when I had my kids I just remember a sterile room with boring ceilings and nurses bothering me constantly. As Kate excuses herself from the party after a mishap with a cake , she stumbles upon the body of a doctor. I will say this doctor was not well liked and the suspects are numerous.

I really like Kate's boyfriend Michael. He is such an easy going person and is quite the catch for Kate. When he brings home two cute little abandoned puppies starving for attention, Kate knows she is going to have to break the news to Bella her dog. Mutt and Jeff as Michael calls them will turn out to be a handful. I laughed at their shenanigans and loved reading about how they tried so hard to be good. I have to say reading about them was one of the highlights of the book. It brought a little fun to the story and made readers aware of puppy mills.

The story has some serious moments that I thought were well placed in the story such as fertility issues, losing a child and the mistreatment of animals. Kate never gives up on trying to shuffle through potential suspects to get answers. I liked how she was able to question people without being to obvious. Well there is one or two that get upset with her, but she keeps going . Will she figure out who the killer is? The book does slow in some areas as it seems the murder is not the focal point of the story at times. I did enjoy the book but honestly I think it was a bit off balance between the murder, the puppies, affairs and relationship and fertility issues. Sometimes there can be too much going on that the main theme in the book gets lost.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Great Escapes Book Tour. The review is my honest opinion. ( )

A Fatal Twist by Tracy Weber is the fourth book in A Downward Dog Mystery series. Kate Davidson is the owner of Serenity Yoga in Seattle, Washington. Kate has also been busy training to be a doula to help her friend, Rene. Rene is expecting twins with her husband, Sam. Kate is at the open house of the Lake Washington Medical Center new birthing facility. After getting cake all over her top (thanks to Sam and Rene’s bickering), Kate heads to a restroom to clean up. Just as she is about to enter, Rachel Jones comes out clutching her red handbag to her chest. Rachel runs by Kate without a greeting. Upon entering the bathroom, Kate finds Dr. Richard Jones (known by most as Dr. Dick) on the floor with a knife sticking out of his chest. Dr. Dick lived up to his name with his philandering ways. Because of Kate’s testimony, Rachel is arrested for the murder leaving her sixteen-year-old daughter, Nicole in the care of Justine (friend of Rachel’s). Kate knows that Rachel did not murder her husband and sets out to find the real culprit. Kate has some new additions to her household. Michael, Kate’s boyfriend, brings home two puppies that he found outside his store, Pete’s Pets. Bella, Kate’s one hundred pound German Shepard, actually likes the little fellows. Soon, though, the destruction gets to be too much for Kate and Bella’s health takes a downward turn. Will Kate be able to find Dr. Jones’ killer and the person responsible for leaving the puppies outside Michael’s shop before Rene has her babies?

I found A Fatal Twist to be an easy read and a reader can enjoy it as a stand-alone novel. I found the two mysteries (the murder and the puppy issue) to be easy to solve. The identity of the killer can be figured out very early in the book (much to my disappointment). The puppy conundrum can also be solved before the answer is revealed in the story. I found A Fatal Twist to be packed with yoga, puppies, babies, lawsuits, cheaters, sleuthing, Bella’s stomach issues, and Kate’s bio breaks (leaving little room for the mystery). The reader is subjected to many details regarding Bella’s digestive condition (EPI). The details will have you reconsidering eating your next meal. I also found the frequent mention of “bio break’s” unnecessary. Does a reader really need to know every single time a character goes to the bathroom? I give A Fatal Twist 3 out of 5 stars. I found Kate to be a contradiction at times (and a hard character to like). Kate loves yoga, but has issues with hot yoga (you could not pay me enough to subject myself to hot yoga). Her reaction to the class seemed odd for this yoga lover. The book does contain descriptions of various yoga poses and different types of classes. If you have enjoyed the previous books in the series, then you will enjoy reading A Fatal Twist. ( )
