International lawyer Philippe Sands has a unique insider's view of the elites who govern our lives. His sensational revelations in Lawless World changed the political agenda overnight, forcing Tony Blair to publish damning material that he'd tried to hide. A leading international lawyer and academic shows how the USA has " ... reneged on agreements governing war, torture and the environment - with Britain turning a blind eye ... " Convincing. Has produced a case for globally binding rules. ( )

This book covers a wider aspect of international law compare to War Law. The War Law, as the title suggests, only explains the international law concerning war. Meanwhile, Lawless World covers issues such as Environmental Law (why US and Australia refuse to sign the Kyoto Protocol), Guantanamo Legal Black Hole (precedent of Abu Ghraib), the ICJ’s role, International Humanitarian Law, etc. I feel that probably this book is concentrating on too many issues at once, the studies are not as powerful as War Law. I lost track while half way reading it. Nonetheless, this book is good for building up general knowledge. However, it is not so much of a reference book nor a comprehensive study material. In comparison, through the reading it is obvious that this book is written in a British point of view, while the War Law is too much of an American material.

I love it when brilliantly intelligent and knowledgeable people are brave enough to write hard hitting exposes. It is always nice for someone to join the dots and tell you what the real story is, and what is really happening in the world. ( )
