An incendiary debut taking the world by storm, Fight Like A Girl is an essential manifesto for feminists new, old and soon-to-be.

Online sensation and fearless feminist heroine, Clementine Ford is a beacon of hope and inspiration to thousands of women and girls. In the wake of Harvey Weinstein and the #MeToo campaign, Ford uses a mixture of memoir, opinion and investigative journalism to expose just how unequal the world continues to be for women.
Personal, inspiring and courageous, Fight Like A Girl is an essential manifesto for feminists new, old and soon-to-be. The book is a call-to-arms for women to rediscover the fury that has been suppressed by a society that, despite best efforts, still considers feminism to be a threat.
Urgently needed, Fight Like a Girl is a passionate, rallying cry that will awaken readers to the fact they are not alone and there's a brighter future where men and women can flourish equally ?? and that's something worth fighting f… (mere)

As I was reading this book, I had the same feeling I did when I read "the female eunuch" or "the feminine mystique" for the first time at 15. Clementine ford sums up feminism in its current incarnation, covering topics such as rape culture, body image, the pressure to conform etc. clementine ford is somewhat preaching to the converted, if you Don't already have feminist leanings you are unlikely to read this book anyway. I will be recommending the book to all the women I know, my 14 year old daughter, my friends.... In short highly recommended ( )

Disclaimer: While I am a feminist, my opinions differ to that of the book so please do not be offended.

[b:Fight Like A Girl|29615052|Fight Like A Girl|Clementine Ford|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1470788036l/29615052._SY75_.jpg|49958522] is a book about feminism and is a call to arms for every girl.
While the book is empowering, I cannot ignore some of the controversial and problematic aspects of this book. While the book does contain very good ideas, some of the ideas are not what I thought feminism is about. For one, Clementine does generalization, saying ALL men cause suffering but not all of them do, she also talks about a matriarchy and jokes about male slaves which is a pretty messed up joke.

She had so many important things to say but it is being overrun by bitterness and fury.
Feminism is about equal rights for Men and Women, not Women running the world.
Also, there is no intersectional aspects of feminism mentioned.

Overall, a book with mostly good ideas, with important things to say but with a bitter execution. ( )

I didn't personally get anything out of this book. That's because I follow Clementine on twitter and she has already published her most original contributions to other publications, in my opinion. This is largely about online harassment of women, which I can't stomach much more of lately.

It's also because I've already read many books by older feminists who have been saying the same things for a generation or two. It's quite depressing therefore that Clementine Ford's book is selling so well. I agree with her. She's right. She's bang on actually. I'm saddened because I've seen lots of women online say things like, "I read your book Clementine and you really opened my eyes!" Really? Like it wasn't all there slapping you in the face your whole life?

I've realised women brand new to feminism are going to continue to require books like these every five or ten years. This is basically an update on Jane Caro's The F Word but with more swearing, partly reflecting the growing acceptance of swearing. I expect someone like Emma Watson will publish yet another feminist primer in the next five years and that will be saying basically the same thing, only with zero swearing in her case (and a bunch of faux feminist bullshit about choice and the empowerment of fairytales). I don't think I will read another feminist primer - I've got it. I'm at the point where I'll either read something more targeted or something I don't already agree with one hundred percent.

I'd recommend this as a gift for a young woman in your life who tells you she's not a feminist, or perhaps for a female friend who has recently been harassed online, for some solidarity and catharsis.

Clementine has wisely articulated many of the thoughts and ideas that I've always carried around inside of me but never quite had the courage to voice.
Ultimately, I wish we lived in a society where a book like this never had to be written, yet, sadly in the society we live in now, I wish everyone would read this book.
Feminism is not a joke, it's incredibly important and I'm proud to be a part of this movement.
I'm happy to lend this book to anyone who is in need of it ❤️ ( )

Clementine Ford has an amazing storytelling ability; her use of language drops you right into the setting, feelings, and thoughts. If you need a feminist pep talk, be sure to check out "Fight Like A Girl," because Ford outlines arguments for every social media argument out there. Especially helpful were Ford's rebuttals to men who say "I am for women's rights," and but do little to help with women's equality. She calls them out for their lip service - and often how they talk out of both sides of their mouths. Yes, the world is built on a patriarchal structure, and if one thinks this is no longer true, check out Ford's arguments in this book. Recommended. ( )
