A Light in the Attic af Shel Silverstein (gilberts, KTIversen1)
KTIversen1: A Light In the Attic was written and illustrated by the same brilliant poet/artist, Shel Silverstein. So how could you possibly go wrong?

The Bridge Across The River af Shepherd Thorleif Halvorsen (KTIversen1)
KTIversen1: The poems in The Bridge Across The River are possibly the best comparisons to those in Where The Sidewalk Ends. There is, however, two distinct differences between them. This is a great book for the elementary level and some middle grades. Full of many poems throughout this book. Can be used in a language arts class and other classes as well to just get some reading in and some of the poems are pretty fun and the students would like a lot. ( )

One of the absolute best childrens books. I fell in love with it as a child and it was one of my first purchases for Seth when I was pregnant with him. We recently reread this gem of a book and he laughed with joy at nearly each poem. ( )

Like most people, I got my first doses of Where the Sidewalk Ends in elementary school. One of my favorite things to do lately has been rereading the literature of my childhood from a new perspective, and most times I end up gaining a new appreciation for it. That was the case with this one and I plan to read more of Shel Silverstein's work. I read this in two sittings yesterday and really enjoyed it! Its whimsical and fun. Some of the poems are pure silliness. Others hint at more adult themes and deeper meanings. Really worth a read, a gift, and even keeping around on your shelf. As someone who tries to minimize their possessions in the book department, you wont often hear that from me, but this read had me longing for a bookshelf and a pack of sticky notes. A few of them really made me think. ( )

This book of poems is a great way to introduce various types of poems and this specific one I grew up with reading. I would use this in my classroom to help the students explore silly poems and teach them that there are a variety of ways to make and read poems. ( )

There's some nice, lively stuff in here, good for reading aloud on a sleety weekend afternoon. Just don't make it the only book of verse on the children's shelves.

"Invitation"
If you are a dreamer, come in,

If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,

A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer...

If you're a pretender, come sit by my fire

For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.

Come in!

Come in!

“HUG O’ WAR”

I will not play at tug o’ war.

I’d rather play at hug o’ war,

Where everyone hugs

Instead of tugs,

Where everyone giggles

And rolls on the rug,

Where everyone kisses,

And everyone grins,

And everyone cuddles,

And everyone wins.
