This is the second book in the novellisation of the war between the Federation (and allies of necessity) and the Cardassians and their allies of necessity out of the Beta Quadrant, the mysterious Changlings, or Founders as they're known to the invading Jem Hadar and their Vorta masters. The book covers the televison episodes reasonably well but doesn't really stray off message too thereby not quite reaching greatness. Some of the scenes in the Federation HQ as Sisko has to fight against a command structure taht's not used to being the forces on the run.

Of course, this being a 'modern' Star Trek, we have to have some family problems and these are demonstrated by Worf, now fighting for the Klingons, and his son, both fighting to find a place in a Klingon civilisation neither grew up in.

All together, the action does flow reasonably well though. ( )

The war against the dominion is not going well for the federation. The dominion is pushing hard but Captain Sisko is working on a plan to turn things around and Picard is building a mission to try and prevent the dominion from bypassing the minefield at deep space nine.

A good read. ( )
