Construction + counting = a winner.

Primary. This book is a counting book about building with bricks. It is very interesting to see how bricks are made and to see different counting patterns. This would be great for a math module, especially counting in groups or multiplication, even some base 10 things.

I loved the counting in this book. It was made fun with rhyming with words so make it kind of like a song. All while counting the bricks, there is a story it is telling about what single bricks being put together can make. Workers are hard at work taking bricks and stacking them to make roads, buildings, and stations. This is a great book for children and I think they would also get a lesson on how the buildings we have today are made from hard work. ( )

This is a story about a construction crew grouping bricks by twos, fives, and tens. This book teaches young children about grouping numbers. ( )

Oh I felt like I was in the military while reading this book. Im a little put out and feel kind of like I was just yelled at? The concept is definitely interesting--bricks making up a lot of the worlds infrastructure and its even included how they are made. The chanting counting and instructions with illustrations of children doing heavy labor I am really not sure about. I think this is an attempt to interest boys in something related to school and their possible interest of dump trucks? The illustrations are cool. Cyrus is definitely a talented artist and much of the verse works well. I think there is a divide here where not enough information about the process comes through which is sacrificed because Cyrus is trying to concentrate on it being a math book but had not quite figured out a way of keeping some amount of setting or plot in there as well... I am just not sure. I would definitely like to hear others opinions. ( )
