The Seventh Mandarin tells a tell of a king and seven mandarins. The king and his seven mandarins live within the walls of the palace, they never come out. One night the seventh mandarin (who was the youngest) had the duty of flying the king's kite which held the king's soul. The wind took the kite away and the seventh mandarin saw how the people outside of the palace lived. The seventh mandarin found the kite and brought it back to the palace. When the king awoke he told of the "dream" he had of his people struggling and the seventh mandarin told him that it was not a dream. The king lowers his walls to the ground and goes out to help his people with the seventh mandarin at his side. From this book children can learn to take into consideration what going on around them, also to be wary of others. The king had no idea what was going on in the kingdom because he kept himself secluded from all his people. He and the mandarins live a grand life while a lot of others are not able to do so. Everyone fighting their own battle and you should not turn a blind eye to that. ( )
