This is an interesting take on the classic tale of The Three Little Pigs. It begins how you would expect, and then the pigs travel through other fairytales throughout the book. This is such a fun read! ( )

The Three Pigs is a fun spin-off story of The Three Little Pigs. We are all familiar with the three little pigs running away from the big bad wolf, but in this story, these pigs are able to escape their story. As they are avoiding the wolf, they go through other stories as well. ( )

Though this book may not be able to be directly implemented in a middle grades classroom, there are many ideas that can. This book is not only the original story that is known by many, but it takes different ideas and perspectives to lead to a different ending. I find that this book could be used to show that sometimes what you expect to happen will not and there will be times that you will have to adjust based on the information you are given. ( )

This book is a very interesting take on a classic tale. While the illustrations are very detailed and colorful, the lack of text can be a challenge for a young reader. I do like though that since there is a lack of text, the illustrations really do tell the story. ( )

The book will intrigue, delight, and puzzle children. (Where did the pig go? What is he standing on? How did the wolf really eat the pig if he goes away? Why does it say so?). Wiesner’s tale turns back on itself to reveal its form, and to show that a story can be protean, metamorphic, and infinitely malleable. We have to co-construct it... But has something been lost? Fear, after all, has been drained completely away.
