In a windswept British seaside town, single mom Alice Lake finds a man sitting on the beach outside her house. He has no name, no jacket, and no idea how he got there. Against her better judgment, she invites him inside. Meanwhile, in a suburb of London, twenty-one-year-old Lily Monrose has only been married for three weeks. When her new husband fails to come home from work one night she is left stranded in a new country where she knows no one. Then the police tell her that her husband never existed. Twenty-three years earlier, Gray and Kirsty are teenagers on a summer holiday with their parents. Their annual trip to the quaint seaside town is passing by uneventfully, until an enigmatic young man starts paying extra attention to Kirsty. Something about him makes Gray uncomfortable, and it's not just that he's playing the role of protective older brother. -- Page 2 of cover.… (mere)

Ett mellanting mellan spänningsroman och feelgood. Jewell hade vunnit på att bestämma sig. det blir alldeles för "puttinuttigt" för min smak. ( )

SPOILERS!

I loved this book from beginning to end! I had so many theories, first was that there was three different men, that Frank was actually Carl/Mark, that he was hiding from someone so he changed his name to Carl but then they found him so he faked an amnesia. Then it was proved wrong, so I had the second theory of Frank being Carl, but it made no sense, then a theory that Frank was Mark and that Carl was Graham. But then! Then it all made sense!

I felt the big plot twist coming in this book around the fifth chapter or so. The way the suspense and the questions were being built...It got you in it, investigating along. I paused so many times to try and see if it matched my theory.

And when everything — every question and detail were unfolding, everything made sense, and my heart broke for this family. It definitely was a page turner! Those "one more chapter" books, the amazing kind of books! I really wasn't ready for this book to turn out like this, but I am darn glad it did! And I am definitely going to check out more of Lisa Jewell's work. ( )

This was my first book by Lisa Jewell and I did enjoy it. My only real complaint was trying to keep track of so many characters in such a long story. Overall a good 3.5 stars definitely. It was a different type of mystery then I have been reading and that was refreshing also. ( )

This had all the makings of a book I should enjoy and I will admit that I couldn't put it down. But there were parts I just skimmed over, like the details of Lily's life and I flat out disliked Alice. Alice was a bit of a twit and there was no compelling reason for the affair between her and Frank. ( )
