Eden is a teenager in a dystopian world where life pretty much sucks. She has a best friend and brother who help make things bearable but her brother at be conscripted like her brother's best friend, Gabe, was. Gabe is a bot, someone or something transformed into a machine serving the Empyreans. One day though Eden gets a note to set an unknown person in an abandoned building. There she, her brother nd best friend meet a group of renegade who are planning on making life better.
I liked the main character, Eden. She was strong but essentially acted like a teenager, making her character believable. The pacing was fast, perhaps too fast, I wanted to know more about this world. From the way Eden described it life for anyone but Empyrean it was a life that trained you for service and then you worked and received a substandard living. And yet some of the other members of the group she meets seem to have other experiences and it makes me wonder if there is much more to this world or this some inconsistencies in the writing.
What really made me give this 3 stars was because it ended with a cliffhanger and I really hate cliffhanger. Get rid of the cliffhanger and flesh out the story a bit and this could be a terrific book. ( )
