This book has been a great help to me in the way of understanding and participating more maximally in the sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession). It has also made me feel more at ease in using the Confessional. This book is sound and well grounded in the teachings of the Church. The author urges the reader to see penance as a most personal Sacrament. Within it there is a personal exchange with God through which greater degrees of perfection are possible. This is especially so when the soul is docile to God in other ways such as loving one's neighbor and practicing the virtues. The author assumes that the reader is interested in going beyond the resolution of the more serious sins called Mortal sins which interfere with the reception of God's grace. Therefore the book looks more closely at the benefit of confessing the less serious venial sins. By volunteering to do so the penitent may be able to see over time personal, flaws that are the source for all sin. ( )
