Very easy, enjoyable read .... but has some deeper content which was appreciated. Sunshine MacKenzie is a Youtube sensation with a kitchen/cooking empire -- upcoming book deal and Food Network show -- and a supportive architect husband, the whole package....until it implodes on her 35th birthday. Problem was none of it was "real" -- it was stage name and a fabricated background (hard to believe in the google age) and a polished persona. When unknown #aintnosunshine hacks all her social media with a big reveal about her lies and an affair with her publicist, her career and marriage dissolve. She returns home to Montauk (not Georgia) in disgrace to confront the childhood home/family she deliberately escaped and encounters her sister Rain and a precocious 6-year-old niece, Sammy who respectively tell her she's not welcome, and make her feel needed. So begins the repair job on her life. There are some worthwhile twists here, so it is not all reduced to the trite "better person" arc and the question at the heart of this is what we choose to present to the world and how that "curated" (word in the book) reality on social media/public might impact our true reality. In other words, are we selling our souls? And what does it take to get that back? ( )

Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC in return for this honest review. Total summer beach read by the author of Eight Hundred Grapes. What I love about this author is that you never know where she is going. Sunshine has it all, great job as an internet chef, upcoming show on Food Network, best selling cookbooks, great husband...and a hacker that wants to take her down. Mystery, drama, love story, reinventing yourself. This book has a little bit of everything, but the author does a nice job of bringing it all together. I did want another chapter or two! ( )

The character was flawed and unlikable at first, but she was real and I wanted to see her growth and redemption. I liked her, and liked the story. It was interesting, had humor and depth. ( )

I was given the chance to read this early from Netgalley.

I found this to be a unique story and the characters to be believably dimensional.
Sunshine hosts a cooking show and is just about to hit the big time. Then the unthinkable happens, she is hacked and her secrets are leaked.
You feel badly for Sunshine first. Then you learn her secrets and like her less.
That is a factor I appreciated in this story. Sunshine wasn't just someone who had been wronged, she wasn't 100% innocent herself or totally lovable, but she didn't deserve what happened to her.

This made her feel more real and it makes the reader route for her to save herself. We tend to build celebrities up, obsess over their downfall and then route for them to get a fresh start.

Sunshine has to take responsibility for her bad choices and it is up to her to fix everything.

The portion of the book spent in her hometown was a bit slower but still enjoyable.
Also, there are plot lines left to interpretation rather than set in stone.

There could easily be a sequel to this book, in my opinion.

Thanks for the early read. This will definitely be a hit for summer reading. ( )

I loved loved this book until the end. It is a great book to read and it is the fasted I have read a book recently. The only thing that I did not like was the ending, it felt like the author rushed it and wanted to get the book finished. ( )
