Katy Lewis has it all: a sports reporting job she loves, a great roommate, and two brothers who, while nosy, always have her back. But when Conner Roberts, Katy's unrequited first crush, suddenly shows up--and shows interest--after nine years, she reverts to a sweaty, panicked sixteen-year-old once more. And if trying to read Conner's signals isn't tough enough, Katy's heart is sending some mixed messages of its own. When a beautiful blonde coworker starts pursuing Katy's boss, Dylan Sterling--her longtime mentor and friend--she realizes she may have a problem with that. A reunion with Conner is what she's dreamed of for so long...so why can't she stop thinking about Dylan? For the first time ever, Katy must fact-check her heart. Should she go after the guy she thought she always wanted or see if there's something more with the one who's been there all along?… (mere)

Katy was content with her life. Cool friends, loving family and a great job. UNTIL!! Her childhood crush reappears and sets her heart aflutter. Conner comes calling and Katy starts falling. Seriously he came across as a self possessed jerk a lot of the time to me but maybe that's what she wanted. Or is it? When confusion sets in, Katy has to figure out her heart and what makes her happy. Not very original, but still a exciting, breezy barrel of laughs. Entertainment at it's finest. ( )

Nine years have gone by since she gave him that letter. Katy Lewis is doing what she loves. Covering sports for a local paper is what she enjoys. She has a great friend - whom is her complete opposite, but her best friend. Katy's brothers are her protectors. Katy's schedule is predictable and not as spicy as her friend wishes. Katy is comfortable and has no desire to get out of her comfort zone.
Conner Roberts was Katy's best friend since childhood. She was his Shadow... until she handed him that letter before he went away to college. It's been nine years, why is he calling her now? Will her heart ever stop wanting Conner?
Dylan Sterling has been like a male best friend since he hired her on the college paper when she walked into his life with doe eyes. Dylan is her boss, still even after college. They keep things separate - friends off the clock, professionals at work. As Dylan starts to show interest - in someone else - Katy has the immense feeling of jealousy. Why? Why now? Does she actually have feelings for Dylan? Katy is confused and doesn't know what or who she wants. Will she make the right decision? Will it backfire? Will she realize before it's too late?

Something More Than This seems like a practical romance dilemma... guess again! Lets just say, I was pleasantly surprised at the twists Barbie Bohrman brought to her novel. She did this love triangle justice and I felt like the best man won. Katy may have tugged *? around like a toddler does a favorite bear, but the end was bliss. I would recommend this book and would advise to not overlook Something More Than This because Barbie played her characters with finesse. There is definitely MORE TO THIS. I would love to see this story continue as I think the author could go a few different ways to keep these characters alive.
I don't know about you, but I am #TeamDylan. Let me know what team you are on..
I look forward to reading more books by Barbie Bohrman because I think she is a hidden gem that has a lot to say within her writing. ( )

For Katy Lewis, everything in her life is great! She is a sports reporter for the Florida Observer newspaper. Her best friend Dylan is her boss and she lives with her other best friend Mimi! Plus she has her nosy, over protective brothers Simon and Jonathan checking in with her daily! And other than Mimi's insistence that Dylan is in love with her, Katy is happy.

But when her old best friend (and object of an unrequited crush) Connor leaves her a voicemail, it sends Katy into a tizzy! And now she is in a a bit of a love triangle (well more of a square) and Katy doesn't know what to do when she is torn between Dylan and Connor . But when she finally manages to get up the courage to go for who she wants, she manages to screw it up! Will Katy get her happy ever after or will has she messed up everything she holds dear!

Something More Than This is a cute read that made me chuckle, but it has the dreaded flashbacks that drive me crazy! But thankfully it doesn't take away from the story too much. The characters are fantastic! From Tit's McGhee (aka Rachel) to Mimi and Simons bickering (fyi…I KNEW IT!!!), the characters honestly don't get better than this and I honestly hope to see a nice story for Jonathan in the future. The writing was smooth and despite the flashback, the story was very enjoyable.

I give Something More Than This 4 stars! ( )

Of all of the fiction genres, probably none takes as hard of a hit from critics as romance, which is kind of unfortunate since some writers are very talented, capable of making their readers laugh and cry and escape into a world where the greatest angst is whether he'll call or not. Also, if you've ever tried to write a full-length novel, regardless of genre, and failed, you immediately admire anyone who succeeds and writes a book that is enjoyed and that perhaps helps you escape for just a little while some of life's harder realities.

Barbie Bohrman's Something More Than This reminds me of Harlequin's category romances that I used to read with an almost formulaic (not a bad thing) combination of romance, humor, plot and sex.

Katy is a sports reporter for a small Florida-based newspaper. She's chosen a profession in which men excel and has had to prove herself along the way. Her editor-in-chief, Dylan, was the editor of her college newspaper, which she started working on as a Freshman. So, not only has she had to demonstrate her capabilities as a female sports reporter, but she's also had to deal with colleagues believing that she has her current job and their perceived special perks because Dylan is her best friend.

According to Katy's other best friend since high school and roommate, Mimi, Dylan is more than just her best friend and boss; he's also in love with her. This Katy doesn't believe.

Enter Connor, Katy's best friend in junior high and a bit beyond, the boy she had a crush on and who ultimately rejected her before he went off to college. Now it seems like Katy can turn back the clock and have something with Connor, but what are her feelings for Dylan?

Something More Than This is well-written and charming, with a nice rapport between the characters. There are several fun scenes and some heat; and while the reader probably knows what is going to happen, Bohrman makes the journey fun. By the end, you'll be rooting for Katy and her romance.

I was provided with an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.
